A graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Nick Szigetvari began his career in general practice in Chicago, Illinois. After several years of this invaluable experience, which set the tone for his approach to caring for animals, he decided to pursue a path focused entirely on medical oncology.
His advanced training began with a rotating internship at the University of Wisconsin, followed by a medical oncology residency at Purdue University, where he developed expertise in treating a wide variety of cancers in dogs and cats. Upon achieving board certification, Dr. Nick became one of approximately 600 veterinary oncologists in the U.S.
Since then, Dr. Nick has worked at specialty veterinary practices in Tennessee and, more recently, in Seattle, which he now calls home. He enjoys collaborating with local primary care veterinarians to provide specialized cancer care for their patients.
Dr. Nick’s professional passion lies in helping families navigate the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. He strives to make complex information clear, develop individualized treatment plans that fit each pet and family’s needs, and focus on preserving the best possible quality of life. Although cancer is a difficult diagnosis, Dr. Nick finds great satisfaction in connecting with pets and their owners, guiding them through the care journey, and creating thoughtful, individualized treatment plans.
Outside of work, Dr. Szigetvari enjoys live music, playing guitar, woodworking, landscaping, trying new restaurants, and camping in national parks and forests with his dogs (Mabel and Lucille) and his partner. He also takes pleasure in trying to make sense of the irrational behaviors of their cat, Squish.
